Create a channel

Organize your alerts by grouping notifications in channels
and control how and where they are delivered.

Channels are used to categorize notifications in Signalgrid. They allow you to group alerts by system, project, or purpose — for example Server Monitoring, Deployments, or Sales Alerts.

Each notification is sent to a specific channel, which determines how and where the alert is delivered.

Default Channel

When you create a Signalgrid account, a default channel is automatically created for you. This channel can be used immediately to test notifications or receive your first alerts.

You can create additional channels at any time to better organize your notifications.

Channel Token

Each channel has a unique channel token. This token is used when sending notifications through the Signalgrid API and tells the platform which channel should receive the notification.

When sending a notification, the channel token is provided as the channel parameter in the API request.

Channel Settings

Each channel can be configured individually to control how notifications are delivered.

  • Notification Times — Define time windows when a channel is allowed to send alerts.
  • Device Selection — Select which of your registered devices should receive notifications from the channel.

By default, notifications from a channel are delivered to all registered devices. Device selection allows you to restrict notifications to specific devices if needed.

Teams Integration

If you are using the Teams subscription, channels can be shared with team members.

This allows multiple users to receive notifications from the same channel while ensuring alerts are delivered only to the relevant members of your team.

Creating a Channel

Creating a channel in Signalgrid takes only a few steps:

  • Log in to the Signalgrid dashboard.
  • Navigate to the Channels section.
  • Click Add Channel.
  • Enter a channel name and configure the desired settings.
  • Save the channel.

Once created, the channel can immediately receive notifications from your integrations, scripts, or monitoring tools.
